Fall Tips For The Charlotte Metro Area-SecureTurf

SecureTurf - Charlotte's landscaping Experts = Results. Seasonal Tips - Fall Fall is the best time of the year to renovate your lawn. Fescue in the Piedmont of the Carolina's needs attention now,contact SecureTurf to ensure a healthy beautiful lawn for next season. Seed established in the fall has a greater chance of producing a deep root zone that will better withstand the stresses of summer heat and drought. Grass planted in the fall also has less competition from weeds than if it were planted in the spring. If you have a Bermuda lawn, now is the time to apply a winterizer with pre-emergent. For Fescue Lawns Fall renovation begins with ridding your lawn of undesirable grasses such as Bermuda or Dallis grass. These can be killed using several applications of a non-selective herbicide, and then removed by scalping or weed-eating low to the ground. (Always follow label instructions when applying herbicides to the lawn.) When over-seeding use a quality seed and a starter fertilizer.  Core aeration is recommended over spike aeration for greater compaction reduction. If reseeding bare soil, cover seeds lightly with a recycled mulch product rather than wheat “weed” straw, as this contains a high content of weed seeds. Water seeds lightly 2-3 times a day for best results. The key is to keep the soil damp but not muddy, until germination. Leaf Season While establishing your new crop of seeds it is imperative that leaves are kept off of the new grass. Leaves left on a lawn for more than three days can cause damage. The best method for removing them is by mowing with a bagger or lightly blowing the leaves with a blower. The lawn must stay clear of leaves until all leaves have fallen.
