Spring Seeding

Thank You & Quick Reminder
We are glad you partnered with us for your lawn care.  It takes a team of lawn care experts and a motivated home owner to have a beautiful lawn like the one in the picture below.

SecureTurf does not recommend spring seeding of fescue lawns. Seed planted in the spring will not have adequate time to mature before the summer heat sets in. The grass may appear to be coming in, but will quickly die off as temperatures increase.

In addition, the pre-emergents form a barrier to prevent crabgrass and broadleaf weeds from germinating. Unfortunately, this also prevents any newly planted seed from growing. In the absence of pre-emergent, The area will become riddled with crabgrass and other weeds.

Last call for pre-emergent help your lawn today...

Wishing you a happy 1st day of Spring!

We are just a few days away from the start of the new season. Having a green lawn starts now with pre-emergent. By applying a pre-emergent to your lawn, we are coating your lawn to stop weeds before they emerge. Once these weeds show their ugly heads, it is too late!

At SecureTurf, we apply multiple applications of the pre-emergent to catch the late winter weeds, the early spring weeds, and the late emerging spring weeds. You may be too late for the late winter weeds, but their is still time left for the last two applications. In addition to preventing weeds and killing the existing weeds, we also apply a blend fertilizer to nourish your lawn. Having a green, healthy, weed-free lawn starts now. Contact us today and have a local lawn care expert apply these necessary treatments.

Last Call For Crepe Myrtle & Rose Pruning - SecureTurf

summer02-bottom.jpg

It's last call for Crepe Myrtle and Rose Pruning

Let SecureTurf trim your trees for optimal plant health.
Time is running out... just a few weeks left.

Spring buds come quickly and then it's too late for trimming and pruning.

December through February is the best time of the year to prune trees
and trim shrubs. Once cold weather has set in and the plants have
hardened for winter, you can safely prune, limb and trim without hurting the plant.

Before After Crape
Three things that would prevent trimming or pruning:

A tree or shrub has visible flowers.
A tree or shrub has a visible buds.
A tree or shrub has brand new foliage.

Cutting off the top of a crepe myrtle has become a wide spread way to prune
for most homeowners and is not always recommended. Most people believe
that heavy chopping is necessary to promote flowers and some cut the top
off because the plant is too large for the space provided.  There are some
instances in which heavy pruning is necessary, but light pruning is usually
all that is needed. The type and amount of pruning depends on the desired
shape and size of the plant, contact us at SecureTurf with any questions.

Rose pruning brings out the best in both appearance and performance.
While shrub roses, such as the Knock Out are sometimes touted as being
carefree, remember, all flowering shrubs are revitalized by proper pruning
practices, and the Knock Out rose is no different.
Pruning improves the health of the bush and the quality of the blooms.

When should you prune? Rose pruning should be done just as buds
break dormancy, usually around mid-to-late February through
mid-March in our area.

If you are not sure if you can trim or prune, we can assist you.
In the spring your trees can look like these trees below.
